Road tourism: 678,000 vehicles through toll stations for Easter in Greece

Long queues of traffic and delays greeted motorists returning to urban centres on Monday, after spending Orthodox Easter with family and friends outside Greek cities, ANA reports.

According to traffic police, traffic levels have been mounting on the major national highways after midday, especially the Athens-Corinth and Athens-Lamia national highways leading into and out of the capital. Traffic is rather slow and heavy on the Athens-Corinth motorway at this time, with particularly acute problems between Corinth and the Elefsina road tolls in the Athens-bound lanes, especially up to the Kinetta junction.

The number of cars leaving the Greek capital for Easter this year was higher by 50,000, with a total of 678,000 outgoing vehicles going through toll stations between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, as opposed to 628,572 in 2017.
