Attiko Metro SA will undertake the operation of Thessaloniki new Metro system for the first 3 to 4 years, as revealed to ypodomes.com by the Chairman of Attiko Metro, Prof. Yiannis Milopoulos who added that the know-how of the company is what is needed for the smooth operation of the newly-built network as well as the entire -under construction- project.
After this first period, it will be handed over to ASYTH (successor company of OASTH) that, along with the buses, will undertake the commercial operation of Thessaloniki urban transport system.
“We have already called for staffing with the first 30-40 employees coming on board by next Autumn”, prof. Mylopoulos announced.
Counting down to the operation of the Main Line (in about 20 months), the construction progress has become much clearer. By Easter, superstructure works and the necessary spaces for the reception of the first train at Pylaia Depot will have also been concluded.
The goal is for the relocation of Attiko Metro administration services to Pylaia Depot’s facilities by the end of the year. It is noted that Pylaia Depot will be one of the largest buildings in Thessaloniki. At the same time, superstructure works are in full swing across the entire line, with an estimate that they will be completed in the next 4 months.
According to the Chairman of Attiko Metro, in the end of the Summer, the first trial itineraries of the Metro trains will be launched and will last for over a year.
