Traffic restriction ring in central Athens to resume at end September

Traffic restrictions in central Athens, in an area known as the ‘daktylios (ring)’ will resume on September 30 this year and last until July 17, 2020, the Greek traffic police announced on Friday, according to ANA.

Once the measures resume, cars will only be able to enter central Athens on alternate days based on the odd-even system, where cars with odd number plates are allowed access when the date is odd and cars with even number plates when the date is even. The restrictions do not apply to ‘green-technology’ cars (electric or gas-fuelled and those emitting less than 140g CO2 per kilometre) and those with special permits. Previous special permits issued after 2015 will cease to be valid.

Also coming into force on the same date is the larger ‘green’ daktylios, which restricts the entry of trucks over 2.2 tonnes and coaches first registered before 1996 (until the end of 2019) and 1997 (until the end of 2020).
