Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is going to visit the construction sites of Kentriki Odos Motorway, or E65, on Friday December 20, according to secure information, ypodomes.com reports.
The head of the government will have a close look at the progress that has been made at the southern part of the motorway, starting from Lamia up to Xyniada, where the operational section of the axis starts. According to the same information, he will be accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Kostas Karamanlis and the Secretary General of Infrastructure, Mr. George Karagiannis.
With a length of 32.5 km and a cost of 310m euros is today the most significant road project under construction in the country, funded by NSRF 2014-2020. TERNA has undertaken the construction site of Lamia-Xinyada section while the independent engineers are AECOM and OMEK. When completed, it will become the latest part of the concession of Kentriki Odos, subsidiary of GEK-TERNA Group.
Based on the latest data, the progress of the project can be broken down as follows:
- – General progress: 31.43%.
- – Tunnel Progress: 27.15%
- – Bridges: 38.00%
- – Asphalt Pavements: 20.57%
- – Earthworks: 31.22%
Mr. Mitsotakis will visit the most important part of the project, which is Othrys Tunnel, with a length of 3 km, which will become one of the country’s 10 longest tunnels. To date, 2,400 meters have been excavated, according to safe sources, and by 2020 it is estimated that it will be fully opened.
The Prime Minister’s presence in this project is of great importance, given the negotiations that have commenced at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport by Mr. Kostas Karamanlis regarding the funding approval of the northern section, from Trikala to the Egnatia Motorway, with a length of 64 km and an estimated cost of 400m euros.
