Cobalt Air has ambitious plans to turn Cyprus into a major transit point using a modern fleet of Airbus 320 and 330 aircraft “and connect Cyprus to the world and the world to Cyprus”.
The company – which had planned to launch last year – wants to plug the gap left by Cyprus Airways – the airline, which once dominated the local air travel market.
Chairman Grigoris Diakou said the airline would serve 16 cities from Larnaca.
Meanwhile, the brand new Cyprus based airline TUS had operations delayed, after the company had their air transport licence suspended last month, due to several key members of staff leaving the company.
The airline had planned to begin flights on Valentines Day.
In a separate development, a subsidiary of the Russian airline Siberia 7 is set to open in Cyprus by the end of 2016.
Newsbomb – a Greek language news website – reported last week that the new Cyprus based project will be named Charlie Airlines.
The company will have a fleet of two aircraft, which is expected to increase over time, the report added. The airline is slated to launch flights in the fourth quarter of this year.
Siberia 7 – or S7 Airlines is headquartered in Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia, with offices in Moscow.
