A British Airways Airbus passenger flight from Barcelona to London Heathrow declared an emergency over France this morning – but has since landed safely.
The emergency was announced when the plane was close to Toulouse due to a ‘technical issue’ and the A320 aircraft was diverted as a result.
British Airways has since released a statement saying the aircraft successfully made an emergency stop at Toulouse Blagnac Airport at about 12:20 p.m, France time.
‘The aircraft landed safely after our highly-trained pilots diverted the aircraft to Toulouse as a precaution after a technical issue,’ they said.
‘The safety of our customers is always our top priority and we are sorry for the resulting delay to their travel plans.’
Drunk passenger’
Engineers are now said said be assessing the plane
However some social media users are reporting the plane was actually diverted due to a ‘drunk passenger’.
Yesterday, a Glasgow to Ibiza flight was also diverted to the French city due to a intoxicated passenger.
The A320 flight was due to depart from Barcelona at 10.10am but was delayed by 51 minutes.
The plane -which can carry up to 186 passengers – declared an emergency at about 111.40am French time as it flew northwest of Toulouse.
It then carried out a rapid descent, turned around and entered into a holding pattern, before landing at Toulouse.
