Daily Mail: First Boeing 787 Dreamliner turned into a flying 5-star hotel (video)

Daily Mail presents pictures of the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner ever to be converted into a private jet – complete with roomy bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, a dining room, office area and even cinema.

As a commercial plane, it would squish in up to 335 passengers, but the Dream Jet, as it’s been named, will carry only up to 40, and they’ll have plenty of room to stretch out.

According to BAVIATION, the Dream Jet – estimated to have cost upwards of $324 million (£250 million) – comprises a large cabin set over 6,500 square feet, with a separate resting space for cabin crew.

Among its laundry list of luxe amenities are a sound-proofed main guest area, spacious living room and entertainment suite, a full-sized master bedroom suite, master wash room with over-sized shower, electric dining and conference tables and 16 convertible day beds.

Air technology

Co-designed by Kestrel and Parisian yacht and aircraft design specialists Pierrejean Design, it lowers in-flight noise down to a very civilised 48 decibels, and has air technology built in to reduce travel sickness and filter germs from the cabin air.

Should, heaven forbid, any unexpected bumps occur, the furniture has also been streamlined to be absent of any sharp edges.

Other design features include hardwood trimmings and doors, silk accented carpets and tablets which control everything from lamps and audio to window shades and flight-attendant alerts.

Lamps, potted plants, fluffy white towels and luxurious bathroom products lend the space a homely feel – the home of a very rich individual of course.

Commissioned by an anonymous Asian businessman and developed by American luxury aircraft customisers Kestrel Aviation Management, the project has been in the making for two and a half years.

It was unveiled earlier this year at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Geneva.

In addition, Chinese private jet company DeerJet held a launch in Hong Kong last month.

World’s first Dream Jet

Zheng Peng, Chairman and President of DeerJet, said at the launch: ‘We are immensely proud to launch the world’s first and only Dream Jet here in Hong Kong.

‘This astounding aircraft, created by Boeing and customized over the last two and half years, will realize our vision to raise standards of business travel and create an all-new customer experience where aviation meets art.

‘This concept is more than simply a slogan, it is ground-breaking, never seen before innovation and design that ensures travel can be an enjoyable, refreshing, efficient and productive experience, without any of the previously accepted irritations and side effects‘.

Although several Boeing 787s have been converted from passenger service to private use in the past, this is the first Dreamliner to be built specifically for the corporate jet market, Kestrel Aviation Management CEO Stephen Vella said.

No word yet on how much it will cost to charter this penthouse in the sky, but it’s safe to predict that the figure will be eye-watering.
