The head of the unit of the National Intelligence Service (EYP) at Athens airport Eleftherios Venizelos was hospitalized in serious condition after an incident that looks like a mishap.
According to some preliminary press information, the policeman pulled out his gun in order to sit down and shot himself in the abdomen. Other media claim that he was trying to clean his gun when it discharged by accident.
The man allegedly went to the police office inside the airport and told his colleagues “I shot myself. Bring me to the hospital, I am about to pass out.”
He reportedly underwent surgery while police investigate the issue.
