Demand for low-cost travel within Europe will continue to soar over the next two decades, according to Boeing.
It says European airlines will need more than 7,500 new aircraft by 2035 to cope.
Based on current prices, they will have to spend $1.1 trillion to meet the growing demand for single-aisle aircraft, it said.
European airlines bought more than 240 new aircraft last year, of which 67% were single aisle planes, but Boeing says that by 2035 almost 80% of new aircraft in Europe will be narrow-bodied jets.
If it is correct, the number of narrow-bodied planes in Europe will almost double to 6,000 over the next 20 years.
