Passenger traffic numbers continued to reach new record levels at Athens International Airport (AIA) during October 2016.
According to data, passenger traffic at AIA in October substantially exceeded the respective 2015 levels by 12.4 percent, amounting to 1.77 million passengers.
Both domestic and international passengers demonstrated a strong increase of 8.8% and 14.2% respectively. The development was driven by the increase of both Greek residents and foreign visitors by 20% and 8% respectively.
During the January through Otober 2016 period, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 17.3 million corresponding to an increase of 10.4% compared to the same period in 2015, with domestic traffic growing by 12.1% and international traffic by 9.5%. Both Greek and foreign travellers enjoyed an increase at the level of 15.8% and 8% respectively.
In addition, the number of flights to Athens Airport during the first nine months of the year reached 148,815, recording an increase of 8.1 percent. Both domestic flights and international flights rose at similar levels of 7.9 percent and 8.2 percent, respectively.
