First charter flight arrives to Rhodes on Thursday – earlier than any other year

The first charter flight to Rhodes is scheduled to arrive at the island’s airport on Thursday, opening the tourist season earlier than any previous year. The 120-seat plane operated by the charter company Arkia will be flying out of Israel and is expected to be almost full.

Regional authority official in charge of tourism Marietta Papavasiliou said the early arrival boosted hopes for very high levels of tourism to Rhodes in the coming year, while noting that Israel’s tourism market has opened even earlier, with flights continuing until November.

The charter company will operate two flights a week at the start and end of the season, increasing the number of weekly flights in the interim.

According to Papavasiliou, the Arkia flights were the result of targeted action by the regional authority to extend the tourism season.
