Passenger traffic in Greek airports up by 10.1% between January-April 2017

Passenger traffic at Greek airports rose by 10.1% in January-April 2017 from the same period last year, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority announced.

The total number of passengers that traveled in the first four months (January – April) of 2017 reached 9,275,894 compared to the corresponding period of 2016 where 8,427,013 passengers were transported. 

The total number of flights to Greek airports amounted to 89.991 (of which 50.489 domestic and 39.502 foreign), showing a marginal increase of 0.2% (-4.1% for domestic flights and + 6.2% for foreign flights) compared to the corresponding period of 2016 when 89,851 flights were carried out.

The airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes and Chania showed the largest passenger traffic for April.

Paros, Mykonos and Zakynthos airports recorded the highest passenger growth rate during the first 4 months of 2017.

The airport with the highest rate of passenger traffic growth is Paros Airport, with an increase of 111.3% (18,028 passengers transported in four months compared to 8,533 in the corresponding 2016 period).

Mykonos Airport recorded a passenger traffic increase of 79.2% (74.821 passengers compared to 41.742 last year). Also, a 58.5% increase in passengers was recorded in the airport of Zakynthos.

In April alone, Greek airports serviced 3,295,782 passengers, up by 17.1% compared to the same month in 2016.
