Low-cost airline Iberia Express, a subsidiary of Iberia, launches flights from Madrid to Heraklion.
The carrier will operate flights every Wednesday and Saturday until the beginning of September.
If, however, demand grows, the schedule will be extended gradually.
These routes are considered powerful tools for opening the detination of Crete to Spanish and Latin American tourism, as weel, since Spain is a particularly popular transit destination for the citizens of the Central and South America.
