A 9.7% increase in passenger traffic was recorded at Greek airports in the summer, according to data from the Civil Aviation Authority, while passenger traffic in the eight-month period of 2017 reached 40.3 million, an increase of 9.3% compared to 2016 .
The total number of passengers in the eight months (January – August) of 2017 reached 40,345,923, showing an increase of 9.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2016, when 36,924,530 passengers were serviced.
The total number of flights to Greek airports amounted to 333,119 (of which 131,545 domestic and 201,574 foreign), showing a marginal increase of 0,9% (+ 4,1% in foreign flights) compared to the corresponding period of 2016 when 330,057 flights were carried out.
Especially for the three months of summer, the increase in passenger traffic was 9.7%.
According to the CAA statistics for August 2017, 9.260.832 passengers were transported to Greek airports, an overall increase (+ 5.7% of domestic passengers and + 7.9% of passengers abroad), compared to the same month of the previous year.
As far as arrivals of foreign passengers are concerned, for August 17, there was an increase of 7,5%, which corresponds to 3,548,461 passengers, compared to August 16, when arrivals of foreign passengers were 3,301,970
Indicatively, the airports of Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu, according to the statistics of the Hellenic Air Force, showed the largest passenger traffic for August. More specifically, the airport of Athens serviced 2,538,367, Heraklion 1,405,037, Rhodes 1,016,520, Thessaloniki 775,986 and Corfu 622,866.
