Passenger traffic in Greek airports up 9.4% during January – September 2017

Passenger traffic rose 9.4 pct in the January-September period totaling 48.2 million passengers, 4,129,480 more compared with the same period in 2016, Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority said on Monday.

In a report, the authority announced that international flights grew 4.5 pct in the nine-month period. The number of scheduled flights in Greek airports totaled 393,885 in the January-September period, of which 151,613 domestic and 242,272 international, an increase of 1.5 pct (+4.5 pct in international flights), from 388,182 flights in the same period last year.

In September, passenger traffic reached 7,855,129 passengers, up 9.8 pct from the same period last year (domestic traffic was up 6.1 pct and international traffic rose 10.9 pct).

The airports of Athens, Heraclion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu recorded the biggest growth in passenger traffic in September (2,295,192, 1,174,677, 852,328, 696,797 and 501,732, respectively).

During the nine-month period, the airport of Paros recorded the highest percentage growth (140.7 pct), followed by Naxos (43.4 pct), Sitia (41.6 pct).
