Arrivals at the Athens International Airport increased by 6.5% in January 2018, compared to the same month in 2017, airport authorities said on Monday, according to ANA.
Despite a decrease in the number of domestic passengers (3.2%) due to a reduced number of domestic flights, international passenger rates continued to climb, resulting in the year-on-year rise.
In January 2018, the airport handled 1.28 million passengers compared to 1.20 million for the same month in 2017. The breakdown for the first month of the year was as follows: domestic passengers totaled 416,965 (over 430,901), and international passengers totalled 868,685 (over 775,908).
The number of domestic flights dropped by 1.6% year-on-year (from 5,029 to 4,950), but international flights rose by 9.5% (from 6,869 to 7,521), airport authorities announced.
