The second innovation contest “THE DIGITAL GATE II: Airport Innovation Challenge” concluded with Athens International Airport once again awarding the best proposals and applications for new digital services and entrepreneurial endeavours that can be applied to the Airport context. The awards were given at a special event held on Monday, February 12, in the presence of more than 100 members of academiα and the business world.
The second round of “The Digital Gate”, the collaboration between AIA and Athens University of Economics and Business, supported by the ACEin Center, proved to be impressively fruitful: 162 participants submitted 58 different proposals for innovative digital services for the Airport and the wider aerodrome community.
Through the three stages of the competition, eight teams were selected with business ideas that were related to Airport operational support, passenger – visitor facilitation and innovative services for tourists. It is worth noting that with the effective guidance of experienced Airport executives during the final stage of the process the teams had the opportunity to test and evaluate their product or service in a real environment.
The entrepreneurial teams that were distinguished and awarded during the special ceremony are the following:
The HUBA (Human Behaviour Analysis System) of Institute of Computer Technologies (EKETA) received the special prize in the Exploitation of Research Results category and the amount of 3,000 euros. HUBA achieves a discreet analysis of motion and human activity through sensors and depth cameras.
