Greek airports record 6.4% year-on-year rise in arrivals

Air passenger traffic rose strongly in the first four months of 2018, helped by a steady growth in international arrivals in Greek airports, official figures showed on Thursday.

The Civil Aviation Authority, in a report released on Thursday, noted that passenger traffic in Greek airports totaled 9,939,154 in the first four months of the year, up 6.4 percent compared with the same period in 2017. The number of flights at Greek airports totaled 94,238 (49,627 domestic and 44,611 international), up 2.7 percent compared with the same period last year.

During April, passenger traffic in Greek airports totaled 3,653,878, up 7.1 percent from April 2017. The number of flights at Greek airports totaled 32,552, up 4.0 percent from 2017. International passenger arrivals totaled 1,276,220 in April, up 6.0 percent from 2017.

The airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes and Chania recorded the highest passenger traffic in April, while the airports of Kavala, Naxos and Milos had the sharpest percentage increase in the first four months of 2018 (Kavala 230.1 percent, Naxos 108.7 percent and Milos 83.4 percent).
