With the introduction of Ryanair’s new flight between Thessaloniki and Malta every Monday and Friday as of April 4, tourist agencies in Thessaloniki are hoping to increase the overnight stays in the city from 3,000 to 20,000, according to ANA.
The “City Diplomacy” team, an initiative that unites hoteliers, businessmen and tourism operators, visited Malta, to establish contacts with officials and promote Thessaloniki as a tourist destination.
Welcoming the Maltese tourism professionals, the Deputy Mayor of the Thessaloniki, Spiros Pegas, pointed out that the Maltese do not know much about Thessaloniki and the Greeks do not seem aware of Malta as a tourism destination. Out of the 2,598,690 tourists who visited Malta in 2018, only 17,676 were Greeks, Carlo Micallef, Deputy CEO & head of the Marketing Office for the Malta Tourism Authority noted.
