One of the first to close down its international airport to passengers as the COVID-19 Coronavirus spread, Cyprus extended the ban with 28 countries for another two weeks on April 2 to try to contain the spread of the disease.
The ban, introduced on March 21 for a 14-day period, would go on, Cypriot transport minister Yiannis Karousos tweeted, because the number of cases had risen even as the government moved to set up quarantine facilities and track contacts of known cases.
Cyprus has recorded 320 coronavirus cases and nine deaths and imposed lockdown with tight restrictions on movement, including a night curfew and allowing people to leave their homes only once a day with a special permit on their presence.
