New 10-day quarantine and negative Covid-19 test for foreign arrivals in Greece

In order to attempt to restrict the transmission of the coronavirus over the holiday season, Greece announced a mandatory 10-day quarantine on Monday for all those arriving in the country from abroad starting December 18 and lasting until January 7,  according to greekreporter.com.

Furthermore, all travelers must have a negative result from a PCR Covid-19 test in hand in order to enter Greece. They will also be subject to a rapid Covid-19 test upon arrival at the airport.

On Monday, Greece extended its national lockdown, in effect from early November, until January 7, 2021. The number of intubated patients has been consistently high in the country throughout the weeks of lockdown, however, with Greece recording 600 intubations on Monday.

While the numbers of new infections of the virus are gradually dropping, it is not at the rate that experts and officials hoped for after the sweeping national lockdown. A total of 1,251 new cases were diagnosed across the country on Monday.

New measures concerning the opening of retail stores, churches, and hair salons will be announced later in the week, but schools, courthouses, and ski resorts will remain closed until the end of the lockdown, on January 7, according to a Monday announcement from the Greek government.
