The new national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, Wizz Air, began operations with its inaugural flight to Athens last Friday, January 15, greekcitytimes.com reports.
The airline will run flights from Abu Dhabi to Thessaloniki as of February 4.
“The new routes between Athens, Thessaloniki, and Abu Dhabi add 600,000 additional jobs to the market every year and underline the company’s long-term commitment to offering Greek passengers even more affordable and ecological travel proposals,” the carrier said in a statement.
“The launch of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi recognizes Abu Dhabi as a bold new frontier for ultra-low fare travel in the region. We most welcome the opportunity to contribute to Abu Dhabi’s efforts to provide a new segment of travel in the UAE in line with its socio-economic vision,” Chairman, J?zsef V?radi said.
As of February 17, the airline will fly from Athens three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and from Thessaloniki twice weekly (Monday and Tuesday).
On her part, Ioanna Papadopoulou, Director of Communications & Marketing in Athens International Airport noted: “the fact that Athens is the first destination of the new company from its base in Abu Dhabi, is an excellent development action and we are sure that it will be a significant new addition to our market, with safe, sustainable and successful flights.”
