Air connection between Lemnos and Vienna

Lemnos will have a direct air connection with Vienna from this summer via Austrian Airlines, and the first flights are already full.

With the aim of promoting lesser-known Greek destinations to the general public, the Greek National Tourist Office of Austria sought and succeeded in establishing a direct air connection between Vienna and Lemnos this summer (29/06-07/09/2025), with a weekly Austrian flight every Sunday.

It is noted that Austria is the only country that is directly connected to 21 Greek destinations (Athens, Thessaloniki/Chalkidiki, Kavala, Skiathos, Skyros, Preveza, Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Araxos, Kalamata, Rhodes, Kos, Karpathos, Samos, Lemnos, Paros, Mykonos, Santorini, Heraklion, Chania).

In an effort to include Lemnos permanently on the tourist map of Austria and neighboring countries, the Austrian National Tourist Board, in collaboration with Austrian Airlines and local organizations, organized a journalist trip to the island of Hephaestus and the mysteries with representatives from the most important media in Austria, between May 6-10.

The media participating in the trip are: Kronen Zeitung (1.5 million copies – one of the largest newspapers in Europe), Kleine Zeitung, Die Presse, Salzburger Nachrichten, BezirkZeitungen, The Viennese Girl, TIP and Plus 7 dni.

The familiarization trip

The oldest organized city in Europe, Poliochni, and the sanctuary of the Kabeiros were the first stops of the visit to the island.

Traditional villages of particular interest, such as Kontopouli and Kotsinas, as well as Moudros and the beautiful capital Myrina with its castle, attracted the admiration of the participants.

The program, curated by Petrides travel, the Lemnos Hoteliers Association and the Municipality of Lemnos, included, in addition to a sunset boat ride and gastronomic “routes”, visits to an olive oil mill, a traditional bakery producing local pasta, an aromatic plant harvesting unit, a honey processing unit, and wine tasting.

The “secrets of Lemnos” that make the island unique were not missing from the short stay, such as Panagia Kakaviotissa, the sand dunes, and the geological park in Faraklo.

The particularly successful trip was realized thanks to the unwavering support and kind sponsorship of entrepreneurs and other tourism organizations on the island.

The trip was accompanied by Ms. Stavroula Skaltsi, Head of the Austrian National Tourist Office, Ioannis Rafalias, Press of the Austrian National Tourist Office, Michaela Gruber Rafalias – Austrian Airlines.
