America: Cheap flights in the summer – and to Athens | August is the most economical month

International airfare deals for American travelers in the heart of summer are predicted by an analysis of the Going platform. In fact, the analysis highlights August as the cheapest month of the summer for flights.

According to the data, cheap flights, up to 50% lower than the original cost, are found in the summer for Athens and other Greek destinations. For example, one can find a flight to Athens from St. Louis for just $573.
Globally, Going notes that August is the cheapest month for flights during the high summer season. Specifically, the average for domestic flights in the US is $424, while international fares reach $1,224, prices significantly lower than in June and July.

According to Going’s analysis, August offers savings of more than $180 on international flights compared to June, and about $22 less on domestic travel compared to July. It also notes that the best time to book summer travel is the first half of June and the last half of August.

“If you’re looking to secure cheap summer airfares, aim for either early June or late August,” says travel consultant Katy Nastro. She explains that the “middle” eight weeks of summer — July and the first half of August — see the most demand due to school holidays, driving up prices.

International airfare deals are expected to be disproportionately plentiful this summer, Going notes.

Already, deals to Europe during peak summer dates are appearing more often and lasting longer than usual. This is due to the widely reported decline in international arrivals to the U.S. as visitors from other countries avoid traveling to the U.S. following the Trump administration’s tariffs.

The platform also notes that destinations like Hawaii are seeing their lowest traffic in September, showing that strategic travel date selection can have a significant impact on costs.

Another piece of good news from Going’s report: After years of airlines exploiting demand for premium lounge seats, the changing priorities of travelers may now make premium cabins more affordable, as fewer people are opting to spend big on business class seats, Going says.

For frequent flyers, there’s nothing better than getting a much more comfortable seat without the typical airline overpricing.
