Athens-Charlotte flights launched – USA among top markets for “El. Venizelos”

The first flights of American Airlines, a member of the Oneworld alliance, on the new route between Charlotte and Athens began on Thursday, June 5.

American is the only airline covering the route in question, which covers a distance of 8,815 km and will be operated daily with a 777-200 aircraft.

Flight AA326 departs Charlotte at 18:45 local time and lands in Athens the next day at 12:05 local time. The return flight (AA325) departs at 12:00 and returns to North Carolina at 16:45.

Throughout the summer, American travelers are increasingly seeking out getaways to European destinations that offer cultural, culinary or adventure experiences, said Jose A. Freig, American’s Vice President of International and Inflight Dining.

Athens, he said, continues to be a key destination in American’s network and with this route, its customers in Greece will also have access to more than 145 destinations in the United States.

In addition to the very successful summer connection with Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia, this new route significantly upgrades our connectivity and offers even more options for international passengers with American Airlines’ leading product, pointed out the Director of Communications and Marketing of Athens Airport, Ms. Ioanna Papadopoulou.

The US market is showing impressive growth for Athens and is systematically ranked among the top positions of its most important and popular markets, she added.

Delta is the most important air carrier between the US and Athens

During the 2025 summer season, Athens is connected to 9 American cities through 103 weekly departures. A total of 5 air carriers operate connections between Athens and the US (American, Delta, United, Norse, and Emirates).

Delta is the largest carrier on routes between the US and Athens with 34 weekly flights and over 9,500 seats per week in each direction. It is followed by American with 28 weekly flights and 7,098 seats, and United with 24 weekly flights and 6,654 seats per week.
