Skiathos: Increase in arrivals at the airport, but reduced consumption by visitors

The data recorded for the “Alexandros Papadiamantis” airport in Skiathos are positive, as passenger traffic increased by 10.4% this year compared to 2024, according to Fraport Greece.

However, tourism professionals report that, despite the increase in arrivals, there is a decrease in consumption and business turnover. As noted by the Skiathos Hoteliers Association, visitors this year seem to be spending less on dining, shopping and additional services compared to previous summers.

This picture is linked to a more general trend observed in other Greek destinations: more arrivals, but limited tourist spending. This fact raises concerns about the overall financial results of the season, despite high occupancy rates.

Skiathos remains one of the most popular island destinations in the country, with significant demand from abroad, however this year’s data shows that the discussion around tourism is not limited only to arrivals, but also to consumption that strengthens the local economy, always according to the island’s stakeholders.
