SKY express strengthens its presence at the “Macedonia” airport with the new direct connection Thessaloniki – D?sseldorf. The route is operated with the state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo and A321neo, three times a week (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) throughout the year.
After the direct connection Thessaloniki-Larnaca, which the company has been serving consistently since 2021, the new connection, Thessaloniki-Dusseldorf, further strengthens its extroversion and confirms SKY express’s solid investment in Northern Greece. At the same time, the company connects Thessaloniki with eight direct domestic destinations and with an extensive network of destinations via Athens, as SKY express is the only airline with the largest network of destinations in the country.
Thessaloniki is one of the important pillars of the company’s growth strategy, with its passenger traffic recording an increase of 5.5% compared to last year, which highlights the trust of the passenger public and the continuous commitment of SKY express to invest in Thessaloniki and its passengers.
At the honorary event, organized by the “Macedonia” airport for the first flight of the Thessaloniki-Dusseldorf connection, Mr. Gerasimos Skaltsas, Chief Commercial Officer of SKY express stated: “We are particularly happy about the new direct Thessaloniki-Dusseldorf connection. This new route constitutes an important milestone for the company, strengthening the connectivity of Northern Greece with Central Europe, and creating new opportunities for the city and the wider region. At the same time, it confirms our continuous presence and commitment, offering more choices to our passengers and empowering the local community. Thessaloniki is a strategic hub for us, a fact confirmed by the planned available seats, which will serve the city in 2026 and will reach one million, reflecting its ever-increasing role in our network.”
Ms. Katerina Pollatou, Airline Marketing & Development Manager/ Commercial & Business Development of Fraport Greece stated: “We are pleased to welcome the new SKY express route from Thessaloniki to D?sseldorf, which further strengthens the airline’s presence at ‘’Macedonia’’ airport. Thessaloniki is a destination with particular dynamics and an ever-increasing appeal in the main foreign markets, which makes this particular connection particularly important for the destination. Fraport Greece will continue to consistently support the development path of SKY express at the 14 regional airports, providing a sound operating environment and ensuring a close and productive cooperation in all areas.”
For his part, Senior Vice President Aviation of D?sseldorf Airport, Dr. Henning Pfisterer, welcoming the crew and passengers of the first flight from Thessaloniki, said “We are delighted that SKY express is continuing to strengthen its presence at D?sseldorf Airport. With the addition of Thessaloniki, the company’s network is enriched with another important destination. Thessaloniki is of particular importance to many people in North Rhine-Westphalia, who have family ties to Northern Greece. In this way, passengers have more travel options, while the close cultural and family ties between our region and Greece are strengthened even further.”
As part of its firm commitment to supporting the strengthening of the connectivity of both Thessaloniki and the wider region, SKY express, for another year, actively participated in the largest tourism exhibition in Northern Greece, Philoxenia-Hotelia 2025. The company held substantive meetings with industry professionals, partners and stakeholders, confirming both its active support for the local community and its decisive role in promoting Greek tourism in international markets.
