Wizz Air: New Connection to Athens from Its New Warsaw Base

Wizz Air will offer a new direct connection to Athens from its new base at Warsaw Modlin Airport, where it will operate two Airbus A321neo aircraft.

Overall, from the new Modlin base, Wizz Air will offer 11 new direct routes to major European cities.

The Athens route began yesterday, Monday, 1 December 2025, and will operate every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Modlin Airport is the airline’s sixth base in Poland, following bases in Gda?sk, Katowice, Krakow, Warsaw (Chopin), and Wroc?aw, confirming Wizz Air’s commitment to further expand in the Polish market.

The other new routes from Modlin will be to Bergamo, Barcelona, Bergen, Malta, Sofia, Brindisi, Alghero, Paphos, Palermo, and Chi?in?u.

With the opening of its operational base at Warsaw Modlin Airport, Wizz Air further strengthens its position in Poland, now offering nearly 219 routes from the country.

From Modlin alone, the airline will provide over 500,000 seats annually, giving passengers even greater access to affordable and convenient travel across Europe.

The base is supported by two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft, which consume 20% less fuel, emit 20% less CO?, and generate 50% less noise compared to previous-generation Airbus aircraft. Two-thirds of the airline’s fleet already consists of A321neo aircraft, and the average fleet age is just over 4.5 years.

Wizz Air’s expansion will bring significant economic benefits to the region, creating 80 direct new jobs for pilots and cabin crew and supporting up to 700 additional jobs in the wider tourism and services sector.

Since beginning operations in Poland in 2004, Wizz Air has carried 128 million passengers to and from the country, making it one of the leading players in the Polish aviation market.
