Dynamic presence of the Winemakers of Crete at the PROWEIN exhibition

  • With a unified and highly curated stand, the Winemakers of Crete (Wines of Crete), with the support of the Region of Crete and the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce, participated in the international wine and spirits exhibition PROWEIN, which took place in D?sseldorf, Germany.

PROWEIN, considered the leading exhibition in the wine sector worldwide, this year hosted more than 5,000 exhibitors from 65 countries, while over 45,000 professional visitors from 130 countries flooded the exhibition spaces, confirming its international character.

The Crete pavilion was attended by eight distinguished wineries of the island: Silva – Daskalaki, Diamantaki, Douloufaki, Zacharioudaki, Idea Winery, Louloudi, Douraki and Strataridaki. At the same time, a number of professionals in the field visited the single wine bar of Crete, which was curated by the sommelier Yro Koliakoudaki Dip WSET, offering the opportunity to taste labels from 36 wineries and highlighting the wealth and diversity of the Cretan vineyard.

The overall presence was framed by tasteful graphic material, with information on the local varieties, the PDO and PGI zones, and the morphology of the island, enhancing the educational and promotional dimension of the participation.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Agricultural Economy, Stavros Tzedakis, stated in this regard:

“The Region of Crete has included in its annual program the participation in internationally prestigious exhibitions, such as PROWEIN. With the Crete Winemakers Network, we are united by a common vision for the promotion and development of the Cretan Vineyard. We actively support our producers and strengthen the wine and gastronomic destination “Crete.”

For his part, the President of the Crete Winemakers Network, Stelios Zacharioudakis, stated:

“We warmly thank the Region of Crete for its constant support in the actions of extroversion of Cretan wine. The almost ten-year, consistent participation of the Cretan Vineyard with a single pavilion at PROWEIN demonstrates its potential. Our synergies and close cooperation with the Region continue with the aim of establishing Crete as a leading wine-producing region.”

The presence of Wines of Crete at this year’s PROWEIN further strengthened the international profile of Cretan wine, establishing Crete on the global wine map.
