Kastoria hosts from today, September 16, until the 19th of the month, the opening event of the European project “EnoGastroDEST”, organized by the Tourism Company of Western Macedonia (ETDYMA) in collaboration with the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN).
The program, funded by Interreg Europe, aims to preserve and highlight the oenological and gastronomic heritage, strengthening experiential and sustainable cultural tourism at the European level.
Representatives from all over Europe – Portugal, Romania, Germany, Moldova, Cyprus, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Spain – are already in Kastoria, participating in a multidimensional platform for the exchange of experiences between politicians, tourism professionals, academics and executives from the food and wine industry.
The main event will take place on Wednesday, September 17 at the Kastoria Aquarium, with themes on gastronomic tradition, viticulture and wine tourism. On Thursday, September 18, the conference participants will visit wineries in Western Macedonia and participate in networking activities at the city’s lake.
Among the speakers will be Dr. Polytimi Farmaki, Deputy Governor of Tourism, Culture and Environment of the Region of Western Macedonia, who will present the vision for the development of experiential wine and food tourism in the region.
Particular emphasis will be placed on recording good practices, which will feed the Interreg Europe database, giving tools to European regions to develop their wine and food tourism strategy.
As the Region notes, “our goal is to highlight the unique wealth of Western Macedonia and create new opportunities for local producers and entrepreneurs.”
The event is expected to strengthen tourism in Kastoria, promote local products and contribute to the sustainable development of the region, as it is specifically emphasized.
