Robert De Niro's Nobu Manila named worst luxury hotel

Robert de Niro may be the toast of Hollywood when it comes to acting, but when it comes to owning hotels, not so much.

In fact, the acting legend – who recently joined forces with Michelin-starred chef  and Hollywood producer  to open Nobu Manila – has been gifted the unwanted title of the worst luxury hotel of 2015.

The disappointing accolade was awarded by Luxury Travel Intelligence (LTI) which published its list of best and worst luxury hotel openings of 2015.

Questionable developments and over expansion

The actor, known for his parts in Heat and Meet the Fockers to name just a few, opened Asia’s first Nobu Hotel to plenty of fanfare, but it seems not everyone is taken with the luxury offering, with LTI saying there has been “some questionable developments and over expansion.”

Nobu Hotel Manila was a great disappointment,” the company’s co-founder, Michael Crompton, also told Fortune.com, adding that LTI had received “negative feedback” on the hotel from some of its members.

Other luxury hotels to miss the mark, according to LTI are Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok, Mauritius St Regis, Mumbai Zaya Nurai, Abu Dhabi Edition, Miami Beach while those that took the top spot include; Mandarin Oriental – Marrakech Sant Francesc, Palma Mallorca Aman, Tokyo Villa Rene Lalique, Alsace Reverie Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City.
