Trivago: Low hotel prices in Athens during February – increases in Spain

Athens hotel prices increased by 12% in February compared to the same month last year, but still remained the cheapest in Europe, with the average nightly rate at 84 euros, according to a trivago Spain survey.

The same survey shows that Spanish hotels increased their prices by 16% in February compared to the same period last year, while in comparison to January of this year, they were 11% more expensive.

Most notable were price hikes in Catalonia where hotels prices went up by 24% in relation to February 2015 climbing to an average of 117 euros against 94 euros a year ago.

The record holder for price increase is Barcelona, where the average cost increased by 27%, from 97 to 122 euros per room. Saragosa hotels ranked second (+ 25% to EUR 75 per night), with Madrid occupying the third place (+ 13%, to 102 euros per night).

More than 100 euros

Hotels in Palma de Mallorca and Las Palmas also cost more than 100 euros per night while accommodation costs slightly less in Cadiz (99 euros) and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (96 euros).

As for other countries,  February 2015 prices increased in Amsterdam (+ 13%, to 143 euros) and Dublin (+ 15% to EUR 124 ).

On the contrary, hotel prices decreased in Turkey by 18% (from 90 to 74 euros), in Paris by 9%  (138 euros per night) and in Venice by 10% (145 euros).
