World’s biggest hotel construction delayed

The planned $3.5 billion Abraj Kudai in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, projected to become the world’s largest hotel by room count, might not be finished by 2017 as previously thought, Forbes reports.

Low oil prices have hurt the Saudi economy, causing the government to “cancel or suspend projects and delay payments,” Forbes reports. The construction company building the hotel laid off thousands of employees when it was banned from receiving new state contracts after one of its construction cranes fell into the Grand Mosque of Mecca and killed 107 people.
