Tender for Xenia Hotel and Thermal Spring of Kythnos island announced

The launching of the tender procedure for the property “Xenia Kythnos” and the other facilities of the hotel complex in Kythnos was decided by the Board of Directors of Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED) within the framework of the Fund’s strategy for the promotion and utilization of the real estate it controls near the island’s Thermal Spring.

The “Xenia and Thermal Spring of Kythnos” property is a plot of land of 7,018.40 sq.m. with two thermal springs and building facilities of the hotel complex Xenia Kythnos, which features a hydrotherapy center as well as an incomplete building for hydrotherapy.

The tender foresees the transfer of the right for the surface of the property for 99 years.

The contest will take place in one stage and start on 2 April 2018 by posting the Invitation to Tender on the Fund’s website.

The deadline for submitting bids is 11/6/2018.

Kythnos has a long history of thermal springs and spa therapy. In modern times, it took its second name, “Thermia”, from the thermal springs, which are located in the picturesque bay of Loutra, on the northeastern side of the island. It is historically reported that in 1836 the Royal architect Christian Hansen arrived in Kythos, and made the plans of the thermal baths complex with marble baths, while after 1845 Queen Amalia visited  the island for hydrotherapy.

TAIPED Executive Director, Mr. Aris Xenofos, said: “With the exploitation of the Kythnos hydropower facility, we are opening a new chapter in attracting new investments, highlighting unknown beauties of our country and upgrading historic buildings. At the same time, we become a pole of attraction for quality tourism and we give development a new perspective “
