Two Greek hotels, one in Santorini and one in Mykonos, are among the 101 best hotels around the world according to Tatler Travel Guide 2018 and they are described as follows:
Santa Marina
The first thing you need to know about Santa Marina is that it is the only private beach resort in Mykonos. The second thing you need to know is that this is a Very Good Thing, and is the reason so many famous faces come here (Leonardo Di Caprio, Tom Hanks, Alessandra Ambrosio, Bella Hadid…). So you can spend days with your toes in the soft sand, gazing out at the superyachts, drinking mojito vitos and pretending that you’re not surreptitiously checking out what a supermodel looks like in a bikini. Or you can join them at the chic Buddha Bar and eat roast black-miso cod followed by a wasabi, raspberry and white-chocolate sphere (sounds weird, tastes incredible). Or you can hide away in your newly swanked-up seaview suite, with its private pool and scrumptious marble jacuzzi, before making for the brand new Ginkgo Spa (the hot lava-shell massage is life-changing). Lots to do without having to do much at all – a Very Good Thing.
Erosantorini
It’s a bit busy these days, Santorini. Heaven forbid you want to catch sunset from Oia – you’ll be joined by thousands, all thwacking each other with their selfie sticks. Thank the gods, then, for private pad Erosantorini, set on one of the highest points of the island and far from the crowds. Five sugar-cube villas sit prettily around a panoramic patio and three-level infinity pool, and a team of butlers is run like clockwork by the unflappable Alexander. There’s an outdoor screen for showing films beneath the stars, an underground wine cellar for tastings and an open-air chapel for getting hitched. Everything is white, inside and out, with black bits and bobs like Smeg fridges, anglepoise lamps and old black-metal crates for shelving. Even the cotton buds in the bathrooms are black. Because who needs colour when you’ve your very own front-row view of that sunset?
