The hotel continues to be the most preferred type of accommodation for most modern travelers in Europe and in Greece.
According to the most recent overnight stays data presented by Eurostat for the third quarter of 2024, the first ten months of the same year, as well as its estimates for the entire past year, hotel accommodations in Greece, of which 10,000 are hotels, account for the lion’s share of total overnight stays.
Eurostat estimates for the whole of 2024 show that Greece recorded a 3.5% increase in total overnight stays in tourist accommodation compared to 2023, amounting to 152.3 million, of which 127.7 million came from international visitors and 24.6 million from domestic visitors. More specifically…

In the EU, there were 2.98 billion overnight stays last year, up 1.8% compared to 2023, according to estimates by the European Statistical Authority, of which 1.88 billion were spent in hotels or similar accommodation. The high season shaped the picture of the year
In Greece, the ratio of 7 to 10 did not change during the high season, indicative of the fact that it is the one that -still-, due to its size, has a special weight for Greek tourism.
According to data for the third quarter of 2024, 72.9% of all overnight stays concerned hotels and 26% in holiday homes and other short-term rental accommodation. In particular, Eurostat’s overnight stays data showed…

1.6 million overnight stays in campsites, up 2.4%.
However, at EU level, out of the total of 1.2 billion overnight stays, the hotel sector accounted for 677.4 million, up 1.1% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2023, i.e. it had a share of 54.5% in total overnight stays.
