A new high-standard hotel project will enrich the tourist experience of Heraklion this year. It is Rua Augusta, an elegant collection of suites in the historic center of the city, on 25th August Street, which comes to combine timeless elegance with modern comfort and authentic Cretan hospitality.
Rua Augusta is the new addition to MK Hotel Collection, which operates in the hospitality sector with an emphasis on local identity and aesthetic excellence. The accommodation is housed in a historic neoclassical building from 1911, which for decades hosted the Ionian Bank. With respect for its architectural heritage, the building was renovated and transformed into a space of high aesthetics, preserving its historical character.
At the heart of Heraklion’s history
Its name is derived from 25th August Street, a symbolic street for the city of Heraklion. From the Byzantine and Venetian years to the modern era, this particular street was a focal point of the urban fabric, hosting mansions, consulates, banks, and hotels, while its pedestrianization at the beginning of the 21st century gave it a new character, as a point of reference for residents and visitors.
It is precisely this historical route that Rua Augusta honors, dedicating each of its suites to a historic hotel that was once located on the same street: Minos, Knossos, Pallas, Hellas, France, England, and Ideon Antron, offering an experiential experience that “reads” the history of Heraklion through hospitality.

Suites with an identity
The seven suites of Rua Augusta combine aesthetic elegance with functionality, creating a high-quality environment. Decorated with earthy tones, references to their historical background, and with amenities such as a king-size bed, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, the suites are aimed at guests looking for something more than a simple stay.
The Hellas Suite and the Minos Suite accommodate up to 5 people, offering ideal options for families or small groups. The Cnossos Suite, in a two-story space, captures the cosmopolitan character of Heraklion, while the France Suite balances between neoclassical tradition and modern luxury. In the England and Ideon Antron Suites, urban simplicity and Cretan mythological references dominate, respectively, creating unique hospitality identities.

Amenities and experiences
The Rua Augusta is not limited to the suite area. On the ground floor, it hosts a modern gym, where the gate of the old treasury dominates, as a reminder of its banking history. On the top floor, the rooftop lounge offers a quiet retreat in the center of Heraklion, with comfortable sun loungers and views of the historic cityscape.
The property team is always available to suggest local experiences and hidden spots of interest, enhancing the experiential dimension of hospitality and emphasizing personalized service.
