The restoration and reopening of the historic Xenia of Kalambaka is entering a decisive stage, following the visit of the Head of the Service for Modern Monuments of Thessaly, Rhea Georgiou, and the Head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Trikala, Krystallia Matzana, to the hotel building. The officials were welcomed by the Mayor of Meteora, Lefteris Avramopoulos, and members of the Municipal Authority (photo), marking a new phase of cooperation and planning for the revival of the monument.
The Xenia of Kalambaka, a work of distinguished architect Aris Konstantinidis and one of the most important examples of modern Greek architecture, remained inactive for decades. At the initiative of the Municipal Authority and in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the restoration and reopening process begins, with respect for its architectural and historical value.
During the visit, a detailed inspection and exchange of technical opinions took place, with the aim of formulating a framework of actions that will accelerate the work and ensure the faithful restoration of the building. The goal is for Xenia to return as a reference point for the city, strengthening the local economy, entrepreneurship, and tourism.
The Mayor of Meteora, Lefteris Avramopoulos, underlined that the development of Xenia is a key commitment of the Municipal Authority, which is now entering the implementation phase. “This is one of our most important assets with great historical and developmental value. With coordinated actions and close cooperation with the competent services, we are laying the foundations to breathe life back into this emblematic building, which will significantly contribute to the development and cultural identity of the region”, he stressed.
The reopening of Xenia Kalambakas is expected to contribute to the tourist upgrade of the region, attracting visitors seeking quality and authentic hospitality experiences, combined with the unique natural and cultural environment of Meteora
