The Mitsis Hotels Group is moving forward with substantial improvements in beach accessibility at several of its properties in Rhodes, Kos, and Crete, following the approval of funding for five investment projects by the Greek Ministry of Tourism.
The funding comes under the Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF) program titled “Improvement and Modification of Accessibility on Greek Beaches,” financed by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU initiative.
Purpose of the Program
The initiative aims to enhance accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges through semi-permanent infrastructure upgrades on beaches. Interventions include:
Non-permanent ramps to provide access to the sea
Wheelchair-accessible rolling ramps
Modular wooden pathways (easy to remove and store seasonally)
Portable changing cabins and toilets
Special signage and necessary beach-access equipment
These enhancements will make Greek beaches more inclusive, while maintaining flexibility for seasonal conditions.
