Kastoria Hoteliers Association | Cancellations and freeze on new bookings due to road travel difficulties

The Kastoria Regional Unit Hoteliers Association expresses its deep concern over the serious impact that travel difficulties caused by farmers’ mobilizations are having on the hotel sector, in a letter circulated to the relevant ministries and to the Member of Parliament for Kastoria, Ms. Maria Antoniou.

According to the Association, since the start of the agricultural sector mobilizations, a wave of cancellations has been recorded reaching 25%–30%, while at the same time a sharp decline has been observed in new bookings both for the current period and for the critical holiday season. As noted, this development severely affects hotel businesses in winter destinations, during a period that traditionally constitutes a key pillar of their viability.

The Hoteliers Association stresses that the consequences are not limited solely to the hospitality sector, but extend to the entire local economy, indirectly affecting food service, retail, and tourism services in the area.

At the same time, hoteliers express their solidarity with the primary sector, acknowledging the difficulties faced by farmers and the legitimacy of their demands. However, they emphasize that the pursuit of fair demands should not lead to conflict or confrontation with other professional sectors that are also under strain.

“Ensuring smooth accessibility is critical in order to limit damages and maintain the operation of the local tourism market,” the letter states, with the Association calling on all involved parties to immediately find a solution.

The letter is signed by the President of the Board of Directors of the Kastoria Regional Unit Hoteliers Association, Anastasios Ilias, and the General Secretary, Evangelos Sotiriou.
