The Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers (POX) has expressed serious concern over the impact of agricultural protests on tourism activities in a letter addressed to the Ministers of Civil Protection, Infrastructure & Transport, and Rural Development & Food, with a copy sent to Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni.
POX emphasizes that hoteliers fully understand the demands of the agricultural sector and maintain a close, mutually dependent relationship with it. Most hotels actively support local agricultural production, sourcing products from Greek producers and contributing to local economies.
Cooperation between hotels and farmers is strategically important, highlighting each regions agri-food identity and creating mutual benefits, the Federation notes.
However, POX stresses that the form of protests should not disproportionately impact other productive sectors or society at large. It is crucial to ensure that every business can operate smoothly, especially during periods of high mobility and tourist demand.
According to the letter, the consequences of blocking key roadways are already visible, with cancellations of bookings in tourist areas being reported. POX warns that continued or escalated blockagesparticularly if they extend to airports or portscould severely disrupt visitor travel, damage the countrys image abroad, and heighten uncertainty.
The Federation calls on the State to intervene promptly and seek solutions through dialogue, ensuring that tourism operations and local economies are not jeopardized at this critical moment for the competitiveness of the Greek tourism sector.
