A sharp decline in Russian traveler demand for European destinations and seaside hotels was recorded during August, according to Russian Tour Operator Union ATOR data derived learned from Russian booking platform Sletat.ru.
Ta data show that Greece ranked second among the most popular holiday countries, right after Tunisia, recording a 58.6%increase in searches compared to August 2015 and accounting for an 11.6% share of the total searches for August. During July 2016, searches for Greece recorded a share of 14%.
This is the first time that Tunisia ranks first in searches of Russians with a share of 13.1% in searches, up by by 951% compared to August 2015.
Searches for Turkey represented a 9.5% share down by 26.8% compared to July and by 77% compared to August 2015.
Thailand followed with 20.5% more searches in relation to July and a share of 9.4% in all searches.
Cyprus showed a 12.4% decrease, falling to 5th place with 8.5% share of searches.
Largest growth potential
Domestic Russian destinations attracted 6.9% of the searches, followed by Spain (4.9% share), Vietnam (4, 8%), Bulgaria (4.2%).
Largest growth potential compared to August 2015 was attained by Tunisia, China, Abkhazia, Dominican Republic, Bulgaria and Cyprus.
In August, there was a specially high demand for four star hotels that accounted for 28% of all searches on the Sletat.ru platform.
Three star hotels were sought by a quarter of users, up by 81% from last year, while almost half of searches were for all inclusive packages.
Searches for family holidays decreased by 17% from last year, while the total number of people who sought holidays through Sletat.ru was reduced by 12.4% compared to July 2016.
