Approximately 10,000 travel agencies in Germany can be optimistic about 2017 right from its start. They may have to face decreased sales for Turkey this year but most of their other target markets behave very good and the climate among consumers remains brilliant.
According to a survey conducted by touristik aktuell.de, sales for the first two months of the 2016/2017 tourist year are more than five percent higher than in the previous year. January must now show whether this trend continues and it can therefore constitute a good basis for the current year.
Turnover is currently fueled by strong early bookings for Spain and Portugal, and partly for Greece. In addition, many travel agencies report a continuing strong demand for long-distance travel.
Prospects are still open for Tunisia, Egypt and Turkey. These are three classic air travel destinations, that are traditionally booked very strongly through travel agencies. Egypt seems to be doing comparatively well, but things look bad for Turkey after the latest attack in Istanbul.
