“Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ visit to the United States was extremely successful, and once again Greece is shown to have strengthened its position and role internationally,” Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Monday.
She also pointed out that “very good preparation through targeted actions,” had led to a sharp increase in tourist arrivals in 2017, as well as the strong interest shown for investments in Greece.
“The national tourism policy we have implemented since 2015 to make Greece a world-renowned destination 365 days a year has brought results. We have extended the tourist season, opened up new foreign markets and promoted new Greek destinations and forms of theme tourism, while creating a framework for attracting high-added-value investments,” she noted.
Regarding next year, Kountoura added that the first signals were very positive: “Advance bookings for 2018 have already started and the increase is in the double digits. The foreign tour operators we are negotiating and closing deals with are enriching their programmes with extra packages and flights to Greece and adding new Greek destinations.”
