An explosion in foreign travel is expected to be seen in the coming decade by China, which is already the world’s largest market for outbound tourism.
This was emphasized by China’s second largest online travel agent, Ctrip, Jane Sun , during the 48th World Economic Forum in Davos.
Official estimates for China’s tourism over the next five years foresee 700 million travelers abroad.
As Mrs Sun pointed out, Chinese tourists are not only benefiting from touring the world but also contributing to its growth and, given that only 10% of Chinese people currently have a passport, it is expected that over the next decade there will be an explosion of outgoing tourism.
Ctrip has 300 million users and at least one in 5 Chinese makes a reservation through it.
Ms. Sun also said that in serving Chinese tourists, the organization seeks to promote and improve travel-related products and services.
