For a few years now, the trend is that Dutch people book their holidays shorter and shorter before departure. January is traditionally the busiest month in the travel industry in The Netherlands, because there is still plenty of choice in destinations and prefered accommodations.
A recent poll on Griekenland.net among 1.511 visitors of the website shows that May (18%) and June (14%) are the favorite months to book a holiday to Greece. So it seems to be a busy last minute season for Greece this year in Holland.
May and June favorite to book holiday
May and June are the months in which the Dutch prefer to book a holiday to Greece. 32% of the total number of votes went to these two months together. January follows third place with (13%) of the votes and also September (11%) and April (10%) score well. Striking are the months of February (4%) and March (2%), which are relatively unlikely to book a trip to Greece.
The last three months of the year gathered together a total of 12% of the votes to book a holiday to Greece very early. At the end of October, the direct holiday flights will stop from Holland to Greek holiday destinations and in these three months holidays will be booked already for the next year.
First holiday flights already to Greece
In February the first direct flights from Schiphol Amsterdam to Heraklion in Crete started. In early April the first flights go to many other Greek holiday destinations such as Kos, Rhodes, Corfu and Zakynthos. Via Athens and Thessaloniki people can travel all year round to the Greek islands, including in the winter months, with domestic flights.
