German tourism: Advance bookings are the new "last-minute"

Greece, along with Turkey and Spain, are once again among the top choices of German travelers for summer vacations, in terms of flight packages, and most of the demand revolves around the Mediterranean and cruises.

According to a study compiled by the German Travel Association (DRV) in collaboration with the consulting firm Dr. Fried & Partner and the analysts of Travel Data + Analytics, using a method that utilizes historical and current booking data in the tour operator and individual travel market, the same number of Germans are expected to travel in the summer of 2025 as in 2024, namely 94 million, but sales are expected to increase by 5% and reach 58 billion euros.

The sales growth is driven by medium-haul destinations, cruises and long-haul trips.

Advance bookings are the new last-minute in the German travel market, according to DRV President Norbert Fiebig. Trends in demand for German package holidays in the summer of 2025 show that more Germans than last year have already booked a package holiday or a modular trip through a tour operator, indicating the increased trend of advance bookings, especially for summer holidays.
