The municipal committee of the municipality of Corinth decided to submit an expression of interest to participate in the state aid program for diving tourism of the Ministry of Tourism.
In the municipality’s plans, the amount of the proposal is to reach 300,000 euros, for the creation of Free Artificial Underwater Attractions. If the relevant proposal is approved, the subsidy will increase to 100%.
The proposed project will concern the creation of a Free Artificial Underwater Attraction at the location of Ierati in the municipality of Corinth and includes studies for the creation of a free artificial underwater attraction, supply of equipment and underwater facilities for the creation of a free artificial underwater attraction – underwater recreation park at the location of Ierati in the municipality of Corinth, promotion and visibility as well as advisory services for monitoring the investment plan entitled: Strengthening diving tourism in the municipality of Corinth
The proposed action aims to diversify and enrich the tourism product of the municipality of Corinth, while simultaneously protecting and promoting the underwater environment of the wider area. The main purpose of the creation of this underwater recreation park is to promote underwater, as well as other special forms of tourism that can be achieved, utilizing the natural wealth of the area with respect for the environment, while creating new jobs and adding value to the alternative tourism sector. According to the decision, the implementation of the proposed investment can bring multiplier benefits for the municipality and the local economy, by adding an additional activity to the local tourism portfolio of products and services that is suitable for the whole year.
It is noted that the Ministry of Tourism has submitted a call for applications for support for diving tourism within the framework of the “Tourism Development” Action of the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
The project “Diving and Underwater Tourism” is in line with the principles of Blue Growth and concerns the protection and promotion of the underwater environment and the exploitation of the comparative advantages (natural and cultural) that the country has. It aims at the creation and upgrading of diving/underwater parks and the promotion of the underwater environment, with the aim of developing the local economy and employment, as well as adding a new activity to the Greek tourism portfolio, which is suitable for the whole year.
The total public expenditure for the financing of the investment projects is 6.2 million euros and the beneficiaries are Diving Park Management Bodies, Diving Recreation Service Providers, and Legal Entities for the creation of Free Artificial Underwater Attractions.
The duration of the implementation of the investment projects is set at 12 months with the possibility of an extension of up to 2 months, while the completion of the program will not exceed December 31, 2025. The evaluation process of applications will be strictly in order until the available resources are exhausted.
