German, Italian, and American tourists were the pillars of the increase in tourism revenues in Greece in 2024.
According to the data of the Bank’s Travel Balance of Payments, in 2024 an increase in tourism revenues was recorded by 1,108.3 million euros or 5.4% compared to 2023 and amounted to 21,702.0 million euros. From the major markets:
Receipts from Germany increased by 3.5% to €3,696.1 million,
Receipts from France decreased by 11.4% to €1,262.9 million
Receipts from Italy increased by 13.6% to €1,225.1 million.
Receipts from the United Kingdom decreased by 3.7% to €3,172.5 million,
Receipts from the United States increased by 15.1% to €1,581.5 million.
More generally, receipts from residents of the euro area countries amounted to €9,457.3 million. euros, increased by 4.2%, while receipts from residents of EU-27 countries outside the euro area also increased by 18.8%, reaching 2,491.5 million euros.
Approximately 36 million arrivals in 2024
In 2024, inbound travel traffic recorded an increase of 9.8% and amounted to 35,951.4 thousand travelers, compared to 32,735.2 thousand travelers in 2023.
In particular:
Travel traffic through airports increased by 10.7% and through road border crossings by 8.9%.
In 2024, travel traffic from EU-27 countries amounted to 21,795.1 thousand. travelers, showing an increase of 11% compared to the year 2023, while travel traffic from other countries increased by 8.1% and amounted to 14,156.3 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from euro-area countries increased by 12.1% and travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro area by 8.9%. In particular, travel traffic from Germany increased by 13.4% and amounted to 5,402.3 thousand travelers, while travel traffic from France increased by 8.8% and amounted to 1,992.4 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from Italy also increased by 10.0%, which amounted to 2,025.9 thousand travelers. Regarding other countries, travel traffic from the United Kingdom decreased by 1% and amounted to 4,545.5 thousand travelers, while that from the USA increased by 10.0% to 1,547.4 thousand travelers.

Inbound travel traffic in the same month increased by 15.3%.
