After 20 years of announcements and promises, the Environmental Approval Decision (AEPO) was approved for the important port project “Improvement – Expansion of the Mavros Limnonas port of Chora Sfakia”, with all that this entails for the development of southern Crete.
It took 79 approvals and decisions and 4 years of intense effort for this approval and it is characteristic that this project was recorded as necessary more than 20 years ago.
The 19 million euro budget project is now on track for implementation, since, among other things, it had to go through 40 waves.
Initially, the project facilities were classified as forest land and objections had to be heard to declassify it, while at the same time, there were reports of Posidonia algae, which delayed the project in order to study the compensatory protection works.
